NORTH EAST INDIA ITINERARY (21 DAYS)

Day 1

DELHI-GUWAHATI

Arrive Delhi and connecting flight to Guwahati ,the gateway for the Seven sisters of North Eastern Frontier of INDIA , meet our representative  and driven to the hotel in the heart  of the city . Leisure time for self . Visit to the famous Shakti (energy) worship temple KAMAKHYA which is known as mother Goddess for the entire region .

 

Day2

MAWLYNNONG

After breakfast  drive from Guwahati  to Mawlynnong ( 5 hrs drive to Meghalaya )  a  village of the Khasi tribe ( a  matrilineal tribe ) . Overnight in Mawlynnong .

Day 3

MAWLYNNONG

Mawlynnong  :  Visit the Living Root Bridge * close to Mawlynnong bridge early in the morning  ( around 30 minutes to walk  down to the bridge and to come back )  and then return to the hotel and after breakfast visit the village , then  drive down to Dawki ( the Indo Bangladesh border ) and enjoy a boat ride on the beautiful Umngot river and then return to Mawlynnong for the night

* Living Root Bridges are suspension bridges made by Khasi War tribe of Meghalaya  by inter-twining the aerial roots of the FicusElastica tree  and then allowing them to grow and strengthen over time .

Day 4

SHILLONG

Mawlynnong to Shillong : ( 2 hours drive ) Drive from Mawlyynong to Shillong after breakfast , en route visit the Elephant falls and then check into the hotel . In the evening you can visit the Ward’s lake which is close to your hotel  and then  take a stroll in Police Bazaar and then return  to the hotel .

Day 5

SHILLONG  

Visit Barabazar in the morning   ( also  called Iewduh ),   then drive to Smit and visit the house of the traditional Khasi queen and then return to Shillong to witness the archery  at Polo grounds  .

Day 6

KAZIRANGA

Shillong to Kaziranga : Drive from Shillong to Kaizranga ( 6 hours drive) : check into the hotel on arrival . Rest of the day at leisure.Kaziranga National park hosts two thirds of the world population of the Greater one horned rhinoceros thelargest mammal in India after the elephant. It also has the highest density of tigers in India .

Day 7

KAZIRANGA

Enjoy an elephant ride in the morning in Kaziranga National park  and a jeep safari in the Western range ( Bagori range )  of the park in the afternoon .

Day 8

MAJULI

Kaziranga  toMajuli island  : Drive from Kaziranga  to Neamati Ghat and then take the ferry across the Brahmaputra river to Majuli . On arrival check into the hotel and then after lunch walk to a village of the Mishing tribe nearby.    *** Majuli island is a river island on the Brahmaputra river and is the biggest river island in Asia. It is a rural island and is the cultural hub of Assam. In Majuli there are several Neo Vaishnavite (Vishnu worshippers) monasteries founded in the 17th century where Monotheistic faith of EkaSaranaNama Dharma based on the teachings of the 16th century reformer Sreemon to Shankardeb   is practiced.

60% of the population of Majuli are from the Mishing tribe. They migrated from the hills of Arunachal Pradesh around 500 years ago.

 

Day 9

MAJULI

Visit Uttar Kamalabari Satra (Monastery) which has around 100 celibate monks and then visit Samogurisatra where masks used in Mythological plays are made, you  then visit Salmora , an Assamese potter’s village where pots are made by the women of the village without using  the potter’s wheel . This ancient method of making pots is not practiced in other parts of India anymore .Also visit Auniati  monastery , the biggest monastery in Assam ( it has a small museum )

**** The Ziro plateau is the home of the Apatanitribe . The Apatanis , unlike the other tribes of the area  are non-nomadic in nature and practice permanent wetland cultivation on the plateau . The older women of the tribe wear facial tattoos and massive nose plugs. The tradition which was stopped in the 1970s dates back to pre-modern times, when the Apatani women who were considered to be the most beautiful in all of Arunachal Pradesh were forcefully taken away by men of  the more powerful tribes  , which led the Apatani  men to tattoo the faces of their women ( for identification ) and make them wear nose plugs in order to make them less appealing.

Day 10        

ZIRO

Drive from Majuli to **** Zero. (5 to 6 hours drive ) On arrival check into the hotel ,

Spend the day visiting villages of the Apatanitribe . Also visit the interesting local bazaar .Day 11      

ZIRO 

Visit  to a village of the Nishi tribe around 20 km away from Ziro . On you return to Ziro  visit the government museum depicting artefacts of the Nishi and the Apatani tribes

Day 12        

KOLKATA

Ziro to Hollongi Airport ( nearItanagar)  ( 4 hours drive )  to catch the   flight to Kolkata.

Enjoy the evening.

 

Day 13        

KOLKATA   

During morning  enjoy the walk  though the lanes , bazars ,flowr market , river side etc to meet the life at the city of Joy .Back to hotel and during afternoon guided tour to Jain temple , Kali temple and Kumartully where they make idols .

Day 14        

SUNDARBAN

Kolkata – Sundarban (100 kms + River Cruise)

After early breakfast transfer to Sonakhali /Godkhali through the rural villages of Bengal. From Godkhali depart by Boat to Sajnekhali – one of the entry points of Sundarban National Park. After noon visit Sajnekhali Watch Tower. Overnight stay at Sundarban.

Day 15        

SUNDARBAN

After breakfast Visit to Sudhanyakhali Watch Tower and Cruise through Rivers and Narrow Creeks of Pitchkhali- Sarakhkhali – Sudhanokhali – BonobibiDharani (narrow creek) and visit the Watch-Tower followed by a cruise around the Islands of the Sunderban Tiger Project Area, Enjoy a Panoramic View from Watch Tower.

Day16

New Jalpaiguri

After breakfast departure for Sonakhali  / Godkhali by Boat.  Arrival at Sonakhali / GothKhali & Departure for Kolkata by Car. And catch the night train to New Jalpaiguri station.

Day 17        

DARJEELING

New Jalpaiguri – Darjeeling (75 kms / 3 hrs

On arrival at NJP Railway Station / IXB Airport & transfer to Darjeeling (6,950 ft.). On arrival Check-in to hotel & rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at Darjeeling.

Day 18        

DARJEELING

Early Morning (at 04:00 am) drive to Tiger hill (8,400 ft.) to watch the spectacular sunrise over Mt. Khangchendzongha (28,208 ft. Worlds’ 3rd highest peak), on your way back visit Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop. After breakfast visit Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, P.N. Zoological Park (Thursday closed), Tenzing Rock, Tibetan Refugee self-help Centre (Sunday closed), Tea Garden (outer view), Ropeway and Japanese Temple. Evening free for shopping or leisure. Overnight stay at Darjeeling.

Day 19        

KALIMPONG

Kalimpong (57 kms / 2 ½ hrs) Sightseeing

After Breakfast transfer to Kalimpong (3,950 ft.). On arrival check-in to your hotel. Afternoon enjoy half day tour of Kalimpong Visiting MangalDham, Deolo Hill, Dr. Graham’s Home, Golf Garden, DurpinDara Hills & Pine View Nursery. Overnight stay at Kalimpong.

Day 20        

DELHI

IXB Airport (75 kms / 3 hrs)

After breakfast Check-out from hotel on time and take the departure transfer to IXB airport to Delhi. Free day for the shopping.

 

Day 21

Delhi International Airport

Fly back to your country with wonderful memory. Drop by our professional driver to the Delhi International Airport.
